Troubleshoot card declines

Let’s explore the reasons why debit cards are declined and how you can resolve them.

Potential reasons your card was declined

  • Your card hasn't been activated yet.

  • The expense isn't eligible for your benefit. Different benefits cover different things — see your plan details for what's covered.

  • Your account balance is lower than the purchase amount.

  • You selected "debit" at checkout (see the PIN question above).

  • You locked your card.

  • You used your card abroad for an international transaction.

  • Your card has met its daily spending limit.

Workaround tip

If your card is declined for an eligible expense, use another method to pay for your purchase. Submit a claim for reimbursement for the purchase with an itemized receipt.
