How do flexible spending accounts for dental & vision expenses work?

Updated over 4 months ago

A Dental & Vision FSA is also known as a Limited Purpose FSA or LP-FSA. It's an employer arrangement that lets you pay for eligible dental and vision expenses with tax-free dollars. At the employer's discretion, eligible medical expenses incurred after the deductible is met may also be reimbursable.

Eligibility

It's simple to have a Dental & Vision FSA; your employer just needs to offer it!

Note: You can have a Dental & Vision FSA with an HSA.

While there is a general maximum rollover limit for Dental & Vision FSAs, it is up to your employer to decide if they will allow rollovers. Some employers may choose to allow up to a two-month extension to the FSA spending deadline instead of allowing rollovers.

If they do not allow either, check out what you can spend on and plan ahead!
