Language Note
Individuals who are part of an organization are referred to as members. You may also know members as employees, participants, or consumers.
What Contribution Accruals are
Our system holds onto contributions made for members who are not actively enrolled. This includes members:
Not yet enrolled
Pending enrollment
In need of Know Your Customer (KYC) mediation.
Suspended funds are temporarily held in a settlement account until a member’s enrollment becomes active. We refer to this feature as Contribution Accruals, as it allows contributions to accrue (i.e., collect and gather) until the member’s enrollment becomes active.
Events that qualify for Contribution Accruals
Contribution scheduled... | Qualifies for accrual? |
For member not enrolled | ✅ |
For member pending enrollment | ✅ |
For member in need of KYC mediation (HSA) | ✅ |
Before plan start date | ❌ |
Plan Start Date
Scheduling contributions to process before a benefit's plan start date will result in an error message. Please edit before scheduling contributions for this member(s) again.
Applicable for HSAs, DC-FSAs, & Commuter benefits
Contributions for members not yet enrolled in health savings accounts (HSA), dependent-care FSAs (DC-FSAs), and Commuter benefits are temporarily held in a settlement account. Once the member is actively enrolled, the funds will be transferred to the member’s benefit account and be reflected in their Health Wallet.
No Action Needed
Post-enrollment, admins do not need to take any action for the funds to be transferred.
Not applicable for notionals with deferred funding
Due to their funding nature, notional accounts with deferred funding are unaffected by Contribution Accruals. The movement of funds for these programs is based on an organization's need to maintain the required minimum deposit. If the minimum deposit is not met, funds are requested from the organization to meet the difference. If the deposit is met, no funds are requested to move.
For this reason, Contribution Accruals do not apply for these benefits.
Benefit Examples
The following are notional accounts with deferred funding: limited-purpose flexible spending account (LP-FSA), general health flexible spending account (FSA), health reimbursement arrangement (HRA), lifestyle spending account (LSA), and rewards program.
Mixed contribution batches
If a scheduled contribution batch has both members actively enrolled and members pending enrollment, the contributions for enrolled members will be processed and reflected in their accounts. Contributions for members who are not yet enrolled (unenrolled, pending enrollment, or in KYC mediation) will be temporarily held in a settlement account until the member’s enrollment is active.
